Wooden model of a two-masted junk, one of a number of sailing vessels exhibited in the Straights Settlement Court at the Melbourne International Exhibition (MIE). The MIE was held in the (Royal) Exhibition Building from 1 October 1880 - 30 April 1881. At the close of the exhibition, the model was donated to the Museum by the commissioner of the Straits Settlement.

Physical Description

Two masted junk model with squared bow, raised poop deck and longitudinal gangway. Ten oar positions, two rudders and four cannons (two forward & two aft). Fitted with shields, spears and scimitars. Probably from Celebes.
