Model of the Royal Navy Queen Elizabeth class battleship (31,000 tons) HMS Malaya. Launched in March 1915, Malaya took part in Battle of Jutland in 1916 where the ship was badly damaged in action. Between the wars Malaya was extensively modernised with an aircraft hangar and catapult, new mast and heaver anti-aircraft armament. During World War II, Malaya was part of the Mediterrannean Fleet and the Atlantic convoy escort force. In March 1941, Malaya was damaged by a torpedo fired by a U-boat and was repaired in the United States. In 1943-44 Malaya was again used for convoy escort work in the North and South Atlantic and was then placed in reserve. After serving as an accommodation ship and then a target for aircraft, Malaya was scrapped at Faslane in 1948.

This model was purchased from the modelmaker Mr E.J. Krummeck in 1941. It is part of a large collection of British and Australian warships built by Krummeck.
