Magic lantern readings in the form of a booklet, for the entertainment and education of 'the youthful student.'

The readings feature a guide to the known solar system of this time and includes information about the planetary systems espoused by Ptolemy, Copernicus, Tycho Brahe and Newton. It was used during a magic lantern presentation. During a presentation, the lecture was read whilst projecting the corresponding slide.

Originally a set of forty-one magic lantern slides accompanied the booklet.

This booklet is part of the Francis Collection of pre-cinematic apparatus and ephemera, acquired by the Australian and Victorian Governments in 1975. David Francis was the curator of the National Film and Sound Archive of the British Film Institute as well as being a co-founder of the Museum of the Moving Image in London, which was operational between 1988 and 1999.
