This wax model is based on a specimen grown and presented to the museum by H.U. Cole, Shortland, Hawthorn, in 1875. The model was made by museum artist Thomas McMillan in 1875 for display at the 1876 Centennial International Exhibition, Philadelphia.

This apple is a dessert cooking variety and is harvested in winter. The seedling was raised by Mr Cole and named after Blondin, who first visited Victoria in 1874. This variety of apple is not in the 1974 edition of Ikin's Listing of Fruits.
