Carved from cuttlefish bone, this ornament is an example of handicrafts shown in the Melbourne exhibitions made from natural materials. Glass domes were a popular way of preserving arrangements. From the donor we know it was exhibited at either the 1880 Melbourne International Exhibition or the 1888 Melbourne Centennial International Exhibition.
