Snake catching stick, c1920. Snake catching sticks were used by CSL for safely gripping snake at back of head to catch it for milking venom. Used by Commonwealth Serum Laboratories (CSL) Ltd., Parkville, Victoria.

Physical Description

cylindrical timber with metal rod running along side, passing through metal eyelets. Catching end of rod curves into a hook fitting through jaw-like supports. At handle end, metal rod ends in a loop. Loop end is pulled to retract hook and capture snake.
