Blowpipes with compressed air were used for sealing ampoules and tubes of smallpox vaccine. Preindustrial manufacture. Blowpipes (gas/compressed air) were used in many departments at CSL for sealing ampoules and capillary tubes of smallpox vaccine. Heatproof mats were used to protect benches. About 1940. Used by Commonwealth Serum Laboratories (CSL) Limited , Parkville, Victoria.

Physical Description

Horseshoe shaped base. Black wit two uprights supporting a horizontal brass rod. Attached to rod are two inlets (marked 'air' and 'gas') and an outlet.
