Summary

Alternative Name(s): Stepano

Two wire crowns decorated with white flowers and connected with two lengths of white ribbon. Flowers are made of leather. Made by Mrs Niki Gregory, circa 1947; used circa 1950.

Niki was employed by her auntie who had a shop in Cyprus specialising in wedding accessories. These crowns were made in Cyprus while Niki was waiting to join her future husband in Australia. Generally, these crowns were made of wax and only wealthier women on the island had crowns of suede. According to tradition, the ribbons are signed by the wedding party, but because Niki had no wedding party, the ribbons are unsigned
