The photograph is of a group of approximately one hundred men, divided into six rows, posing outside the entrance to Pitt Street Congregational Church in Sydney. It was taken by Melba photographers in 1930. Almost all the men are wearing a suit and tie. The men have gathered for a Y.M.C.A. inter-association tournament.

The photograph was donated by the nephew-in-law of one of the men in the photograph, Allen Hughes. Allen Hughes was a member of the Y.M.C.A in Melbourne at the time, as was his brother Owen. The brothers lived at 113 Clarke Street, Northcote.
