Summary

Pair of woman's black rubber overshoes made by Dunlop Australia. Shiny rubber on vamp back and heel, scolloped edge on flat which is secured by single press stud with black jewel on top. Hand-writing on inside of sole.

The appearance of these shoes is reminiscent of early 20th century styles, but these shoes may be much later, in a retrospective style. Lassetters' Commercial Review, 1911 (reproduced as Australian in the Good Old Days) illustrates shoes of a similar style. Note that Dunlop first manufactured rubber boots in 1915 and used the name Dunlop Rubber Company of Australia Ltd from 1906 to 1929.

The Powerhouse Museum has a similar pair of galoshes made of moulded black rubber which it dates to 1945 - reg.no. 97/216/1.
