Spittoon or sputum flask, manufactured by Dr Dettweiler, circa 1910. Used by patients in a mental health hospital in Victoria, Australia. Used for the collection of the bronchial secretions that come up after coughing.

Physical Description

Little pocket flask, egg-shape, deep blue glass with flat sides. Has flip-top lid, spring hinge operating on press-button. Inside is a funnel to let saliva pass through. Spittoon stands securely on the capsule. Rubber ring is fitted inside lid.
