Made by Judy McKinty, for the Children's Museum's 'You're IT!' exhibition, 1989. Leather pull-cord donated by workers at the Melbourne Tramways Board's Preston workshop.
This object is part of the Australian Children's Folklore Collection. The ACFC is unique in Australia, documenting contemporary children's folklore across Australia and in other countries, reaching back to the 1870s. The Collection has a strong component of research material relating to Victoria.

Physical Description

Skipping rope made from a length of leather pull-cord from a Melbourne tram, with yellow jute knotted around the handles macrame-style. Handles are formed by looping the ends of the leather cord back on itself and binding. Binding is coated with PVC glue, as a sealant.
