Made by Parke, Davis & Company, 1941. Used circa 1941. Used in the pharmacy of a Victorian mental health hospital. Pepsin was given to improve digestion when a patient's natural pepsin secretion was deficient.

Physical Description

Small, dark brown, glass medicine jar, labelled 'Pepsin'. Has round base, straight sides, rounded shoulder, broad, fairly short neck, thick, protruding rim and cork sealed in with wax and with brand label on top. Jar appears unopened with 1.4 pounds (635g) of white crystallline material inside.
