The Centenary Souvenir Birthday Cake was claimed to be the biggest cake ever made in the World. It was 50 feet high and 300 feet in circumference. Made by George Rath of the Astoria Cafe, the ten-ton fruitcake was eventually cut into 250,000 pieces, packed into tins made by J. Marsh and Sons of Melbourne, and sold for charity.

Physical Description

Small rectangular metal tin containing a slice of fruit cake wrapped in cellophane and a piece of paper doily. Also inside the tin is a small cardboard card advertising Robur `Refresher' tea. The tin is printed with information about, and a picture of, the cake from which the slice was cut. The tin is encased in a small cardboard mailing box, which is also printed with similar information about the cake.
