Brown apothecary jar containing hamemelis (witch hazel) used in the pharmacy of a mental health hospital in Victoria, Australia, circa 1920. Made: P D & Company. Hamamelis was used to treat haemorrhoids.

Physical Description

Dark brown glass apothecary's jar with round, concave base, straight sides, hemispherical shoulder, shortish, narrow neck and protruding, slightly upward curved rim. Stopper is missing. Has yellow paper label, printed in black on one side. Jar contained hamamelis (witch-hazel leaves) which was used to treat haemorrhoids. Jar is empty.
