This suit was designed and manufactured in Melbourne by Prue Acton P/L in 1987. Prue Acton employee Marie Menzel did the embroidery. It was worn by the donor to the 1987 Derby Day race meeting. According to the donor, it is part ofthe range developed from Prue Acton's 1987 Melbourne Cup outfit, with a theme based on the hourglass silhouette of a dressmakers dummy.

Physical Description

.1 Navy blue short-sleeved linen jacket with embroidered and cord trim. The jacket has a mandarin collar edged with navy cord as are the two welt (slit) breast pockets. The front opening and six grey pearl buttons are concealed with a flap. The jacket is fitted at the waist and flairs at the hipline. The sleeves are decorated with machine embroidery, cord and quilting. The lining is navy polyester with large shoulder pads inside shoulder lining. .2 Matching straight skirt with back zipper and kick pleat. It is lined with navy polyester.
