This dress was designed and manufactured in Melbourne by Prue Acton P/L in 1981. The fabric was known as 'broomstick' design, produced by wrapping silk around broom handle and steaming The design was developed from Prue Acton's 1980 Melbourne Cup outfit, Byzantine, and was based on The 6th Century Byzantine Empress Theodora's depiction in mosaic. Dress was intended to have a heavily jewelled yoke but this was simplified.

Physical Description

Burnt orange coloured loose dress in roughly pleated fabric. Dress has a deep mesh yoke decorated with brass and yellow glass studs. The dress is sleeveless and below the knee in length.
