Lantern slide 5 from a set of 12 lantern slides depicting the story titled 'Heroes and fanatics in the Soudan: the story of the British occupation in Egypt 1882-1898'. The slide depicts two British soldiers fighting a group of Egyptian soldiers with swords.

This lantern slide is part of the Francis Collection of pre-cinematic apparatus and ephemera, acquired by the Australian and Victorian Governments in 1975. David Francis was the curator of the National Film and Sound Archive of the British Film Institute as well as being a co-founder of the Museum of the Moving Image in London, which was operational between 1988 and 1999.

Description of Content

Coloured drawing depicting two soldiers dressed in blue uniforms with yellow and orange belts, chevrons and trouser stripes, fighting a group of soldiers in white, with white turbans. Several bear swords. One of the blue-uniformed soldiers has fallen to the ground.
