This is one of 959 photographs (or images) of the Exhibition Building collated by the Exhibition Trustees as a 10 volume pictorial history of the Exhibition Building spanning the years 1880 to 1985. The pictorial history was instigated by the centenary of the Exhibition Building in 1980 and forms part of a larger Royal Exhibition Building collection of documents, photographs, objects and research files.

Colour photograph taken from the western side of Swanston Street, slightly south of the intersection of Swanston and Little Collins Streets, looking northwards along Swanston Street, showing the banners hang from light posts to mark the Melbourne International Centenary Exhibition in 1980. The Carlton Brewery building is visible at the northern end of Swanston Street, while the Melbourne Town Hall is just visible on the extreme right of the image, on the corner of Little Collins Street.
