This form was issued by Tattersalls to promote the various sweeps it was organising in conjunction with the running of the 1938 Melbourne Cup.
It was found by the donor under the floorboards of their house in North Croydon during renovations in 2007.
A rectangular sheet of thin paper, printed on both sides with extensive black and red text. On the front is a black and white photograph of a jockey riding a race horse.
Currently the Museum's collections related to horseracing and gambling centre around the champion racehorse Phar Lap. With the introduction of the Melbourne Cup section of the Phar Lap exhibition it has been decided to collect a selective amount of material related to the Melbourne Cup, particularly participation by Melburnians, both at Flemington and away from the track (covered under the `Sport & Games' section of the 2005 Leisure Collection Policy.) This application form is a rare surviving example of the ephemera produced each year to promote attending and gambling on the Melbourne Cup.
This is also adds to the Museum's small collection of material related to Tattersalls, which has been based in Melbourne since the 1940s.
