Physical Description

Ceramic glazed plate, transfer printed, depicting an image of Captain Cook at Botany Bay "Proclaiming New South Wales a British Possession" and raising a flag. The detailed image includes two scribes in the foreground, various British officers and troops arranged behind Captain Cook, a small camp site to the left, an assembed military band to the right. A tall ship can be seen sailing on Botany Bay in the distance beneath a raised Union Jack flag. The plate has a detailed decorative rim featuring a transfer printed pattern of dolphins, cornucopia and Grecian urns, with a hand painted green border.
