This lantern slide is part of the Francis Collection of pre-cinematic apparatus and ephemera, acquired by the Australian and Victorian Governments in 1975. David Francis was the curator of the National Film and Sound Archive of the British Film Institute as well as being a co-founder of the Museum of the Moving Image in London, which was operational between 1988 and 1999.

Description of Content

Tableau vivant ("living picture") narrative scene depicting a man and woman sitting close together on the bank of a still waterway beside a country lane. He is holding her hand and they are gazing into each others' eyes. The woman is wearing a white dress and wide-brimmed white hat decorated with flowers. Their is a clear reflection of the couple in the water.

Standard format (3¼ x 3¼ inch square) lantern slide, comprising hand-coloured photographic image printed on glass with black paper rectangular round cornered mask against image under protective glass cover plate; sealed with paper binding tape around edge.
