The Music Studio - a music composition program (1986). This software provided a complete set of music composing tools for writing, editing and storing both music and lyrics, then playing back any song using a variety of instruments selected from the sound libraries.

It provides a wide variety of musical notation - sharps, flats, rests, ties, dotted notes, triplets, accents and more. The software can change a song to a new key instantly, can copy or move sections of music, transpose passages up or down, insert new passages and experiment with tempos. This can be done with a click of a mouse.

The software was collected because it is representative of games developed for the Apple II series of computers. Although this software application was introduced in 1986 (for a late version of the Apple II that used 3½" floppy disks), it was acquired because it was the earliest example that could be found by the Museum of the use of a personal computer in music programming and composition.

This item is part of a representative collection of hardware, software, trade literature and promotional material that documents the history of the Apple company, and its contribution to, and impact on the computer industry and society.
